The First Week of School

This last year I had the opportunity to really relax and recharge my batteries before starting dental school. I am so glad I did this! It was much needed and I think it was an awesome time for me to mentally prepare for the challenge ahead of me for the next 4 years!

So that is all well in good in theory....

My first day in school was actually not to bad. We have two classes that are interesting and can generally be reasoned through. This will be nice for the school year because it's Monday, which usually has a bad rep for being the worst day of the week because it is the first day after the weekend. Thankfully we do not start classes until 10 am on Mondays! At least for this semester anyways...

So Monday was not to bad. Tuesday sucked! First thing at 8 am in the morning I have Biochem :( I can honestly say this was the worst class in my undergrad experience and I have a feeling it may be as bad in dental school if not worse because we hit the ground running at 100 mph. The good thing is I am not the only one who seems to be overwhelmed by that class. Directly following 2 hours of biochem we have 2 hours of histology! So it is a morning of basic sciences....yipee! That afternoon we will have dental anatomy and occlusion class for 2 hours then a 3 hours lab for that class.

Wednesdays are nice because we finish by 12! Which is really nice to have an afternoon to catch up on some studying. In the morning we have Biochem once again for 2 hours and then Oral medicine then we are done!

Thursdays we have Intro to the Profession which our teachers came into class dressed like this:
They are the man who is the father of dentistry, Pierre Fauchar, and the saint of dentistry, Saint Apollonia. It was quite funny and we ended the class by watching a little bit of Bill Cosby's stand up on dentists. It looks like it will be an interesting class! We then have 2 more hours of histology. This afternoon we have dental anatomy and occlusion once again with a lab following.

Fridays we have Histology and Biochem then Anatomy and Occlusion class all afternoon. EXCEPT for us this week we have Biochem ALL AFTERNOON!! BLah...oh well we will survive.

So this all totals up to be 29 credits for this semester. There are a few alterations to our schedule throughout the semester but for the most part this is what my life will be like this semester. Did I mention that about 85% of these hours are spent in the same classroom!! That can get irritating.

Overall, I am thoroughly enjoying being here. There is that slight awkward feeling of being in a new place with new people that I am working through but I am having fun doing that.

I just want to let everyone know that Troy has been such an unbelievable support for me while I am starting a new phase in my life. I come home and the entire house will be cleaned, laundry will be done, and he has started making dinner. I love him for so many reasons and I count myself VERY blessed to have such a strong support for the rest of my life.

Troy's parents are coming this weekend!!! YAY!! We are very much looking forward to that.

Love,
The Kossicks
